Kwara South Primaries: Group Rejects Senatorial Polls, Labels Exercise a ‘Cash-for-Votes Charade’

Prominent pressure group, the Kwara South Concerned Elders and Stakeholders has completely rejected the Monday, May 18 senatorial primary election.

In a press statement made available to 9japarrot media on Friday, the coalition described the entire exercise across the seven local government areas of the district as a baseline sham characterized by the allocation of fictitious figures to the highest bidders, rather than authentic democratic voting.

The development follows a series of conflicting victory claims from various campaign camps within the zone, including those of Dr. Muheebah Dankaka and Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun, who both asserted comfortable leads based on early field returns.

The elders and stakeholders alleged that no valid or credible voting took place in any of the 83 wards across Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, Offa, Oke-Ero, and Oyun Local Government Areas.

According to the text of the statement, certain local government council chairmen and their administrative aides actively subverted the process by demanding massive monetary inducements from desperate aspirants, translating financial payments directly into inflated ballot numbers.

“What transpired on 18th May, 2026 was merely the allocation of fictitious figures to the highest bidders,” the statement signed by the group declared.

“It is reliably gathered that the amount an aspirant was willing to pay allegedly determined the voting figures allocated to them. This reprehensible act characterized the entire so-called primary exercise in Kwara South.” they added.

The coalition further noted that thousands of enthusiastic party loyalists who trooped out early to exercise their civic rights were completely disenfranchised due to the deliberate, total absence of external party electoral officials at designated polling centers.

The stakeholders alleged that critical result sheets were cornered by council executives who manufactured arbitrary voting tallies under the pretext that a particular aspirant had been “anointed from the top” and must be delivered at all costs. They subsequently urged the public to completely disregard any parallel results currently being paraded by individual campaign teams.

Stressing that the structural integrity and local popularity of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections are at stake, the Kwara South Concerned Elders called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to launch an immediate, high-level investigation into the primary exercise.

The group insisted that the political voice of the grassroots must be protected from raw financial manipulation, maintaining that any attempt to ratify the purported field results of May 18 without a fresh, transparent voting window would be vehemently resisted by the constituents.
