Commend Tinubu, AbdulRazaq for Upholding Equity and Unity

The long-awaited power shift demands within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was officially actualized on Friday, as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi (SYD) emerged victorious in the party’s rescheduled governorship primary election.
In a dramatic twist that upended previous calculations centered around Kwara Central aspirants, Danladi secured a landslide victory, polling a commanding 94,990 votes to defeat fifteen other contenders in the race to succeed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in 2027.
The outcome has triggered widespread celebration across the state, particularly within the Kwara North Senatorial District, effectively rectifying a 28-year political imbalance in the state’s executive leadership.
Reacting to the watershed victory, the Kwara North Political Office Holders issued a joint congratulatory statement, describing Danladi’s emergence as a historic triumph for equity, fairness, regional inclusion, and democratic justice.
The coalition, led by Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu-Boriya (Member representing Okuta/Yashikira Constituency) and Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade (Commissioner for Water Resources), highlighted the deep historical context of the victory. They noted that despite being the largest geopolitical zone in the state by landmass, Kwara North has been completely shut out of the state’s highest office since the return to civil rule in 1999.
By the time the current administration concludes its tenure in 2027, Kwara Central would have held the governorship for approximately 20 years and Kwara South for eight years, leaving Kwara North at zero.
“The emergence of SYD marks a historic and well-deserved moment for Kwara North, and a gesture to correct the 28-year democratic imbalance in the state,” the leaders stated.
“Our people have consistently supported the aspirations and electoral victories of other zones in the spirit of unity, peace, and collective progress. Today, the APC has once again demonstrated that no part of Kwara State will be permanently excluded from leadership.” they added.
The political office holders expressed immense gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for ensuring a transparent national political climate where internal party democracy can thrive without undue imposition. The group subsequently reaffirmed its absolute backing for the President’s 2027 re-election mandate.
The group further poured adulation on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, praising his principled stance, statesmanship, and courage in backing the equity framework that allowed the Kwara North agenda to succeed. They noted that history will remember the Governor for standing firmly on the side of political justice and institutional balance.
Expressing absolute confidence in the capacity of the legislative head, the stakeholders maintained that Speaker Danladi possesses the unique blend of grassroots humility, executive capacity, and youthfulness required to drive the next phase of Kwara’s socioeconomic growth.
They assured the public that a Danladi-led administration will seamlessly protect, sustain, and expand the inclusive governance standards, infrastructural revolutions, and rural development footprints established by the current administration.
The group called on all sons and daughters of Kwara North to remain fiercely united behind the party’s standard-bearer, while appealing to the entire citizens of Kwara State across Central and South axes to rally around this historic candidacy to further cement state unity and collective progress.
