By Monsurat Abisoye

Portugal has identified three leading candidates to succeed Roberto Martínez as national team manager following the 2026 World Cup.

Martínez is expected to leave his post after the tournament, amid reports linking him with a potential reunion with Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

The Portuguese Football Federation is currently considering Jorge Jesus, Abel Ferreira, and Sérgio Conceição as the main contenders for the role.

José Mourinho was also previously under consideration and held discussions over the position, but eventually opted to take up the managerial job at Real Madrid.

At the ongoing 2026 World Cup, Portugal opened their campaign with a 1–1 draw against DR Congo.
