The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Kwara Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi has described the federal government’s decision to extend the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR as a “well-deserved” development that ensures continuity in the modernization of the nation’s borders.
Speaking during an interview at the Command Headquarters in Ilorin, DC Ogundeyi expressed strong alignment with the federal government’s stance, emphasizing that the extension comes as no surprise given the landmark achievements recorded since the CGC assumed leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The Kwara Customs boss specifically lauded the Comptroller-General’s strategic footprints in spearheading critical trade facilitation frameworks, executing sweeping revenue collection reforms, and driving the ongoing consolidation of the National Single Window Project, a unified digital network designed to eliminate bottlenecks and automate cargo clearing at Nigerian ports.
Highlighting the historic financial milestones achieved by the current management, DC Ogundeyi highly commended the CGC for generating an unprecedented ₦7.28 trillion in total revenue for the 2025 fiscal year. This massive collection shattered the federal government’s initial baseline target of ₦6.58 trillion, recording an impressive surplus of ₦697 billion.
The Kwara Command Chief added that such robust economic performance provides clear proof that the service’s current policy directions, anti-smuggling architectures, and tech-driven systems are delivering maximum fiscal stability for the federation. He reaffirmed the absolute commitment of the officers and men of the Kwara Command to strengthen border security, enforcing trade compliance, and sustaining optimum revenue generation to back the federal administration’s economic goals.
