A coalition of concerned party elders and professionals under the aegis of the Kwara APC Peace Initiative has thrown its weight behind the newly constituted state reconciliation committee, urging all aggrieved stakeholders to embrace dialogue following the fallout of the May 2026 primary elections.
The volunteer body made the call during a well-attended press conference held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the E-Phonix Hotel, GRA, Ilorin.
The initiative, co-convened by Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Bisi Abioye and Sir Ben Duntoye, comprises party leaders drawn from academia, public service, and the development sectors. The group was established as an independent, non-partisan intervention to douse post-primary tensions across the state’s gubernatorial, senatorial, and representative ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on behalf of the initiative, the co-conveners disclosed that the group had spent the last two weeks conducting intensive physical consultations, conference calls, and strategic engagements with key party actors, public office holders, and aggrieved youth and women structures.
The group highly commended the State APC Leadership for inaugurating the official Reconciliation Committee under the chairmanship of Retired Colonel AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal, describing it as a vital step toward preserving the party’s democratic gains.
“We commend the State Party Leadership for constituting a Reconciliation Committee under the chairmanship of Col. AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal (rtd). We make a special appeal to all stakeholders to give the reconciliation committee a chance to do its work. Kwara is APC and APC is Kwara. We must therefore make peace and continue in our winning ways. To achieve this, we must choose unity over division,” the statement read.
Outlining their core objectives, the peace initiative noted that their voluntary intervention is designed to ascertain the root causes of the post-primary friction, discourage high-profile defections or anti-party activities, and safeguard the progressive mandate of the party in Kwara State through collective responsibility.
The group further counseled aggrieved members and their supporters to refrain from using media platforms as political battlegrounds, urging them to prioritize issues over personalities during the reconciliation window.
Concluding the briefing, the co-conveners expressed firm optimism that the current friction is a temporary internal family matter that will ultimately be resolved through mutual compromise, positioning the Kwara APC frontline for a resounding victory at the 2027 polls.
