The Federal Government has suspended the recent increase in examination fees for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The decision comes amid widespread criticism and public backlash that followed the announcement of the fee increments.
The Federal Ministry of Education announced the suspension in a statement issued on Monday, indicating that the government had taken into consideration the concerns raised by stakeholders and the general public.
Although the ministry did not immediately provide further details on the duration of the suspension or whether a review of the proposed fees would be undertaken, the move is expected to provide relief to parents, students, and other education stakeholders.
The government is expected to communicate further directives on the examination fee structure in due course.
