Anti-Party Moves Within Ondo APC Will Be Political Suicide In 2027 – Ex-Speaker Warns

A former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, has warned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa against supporting or tolerating alleged anti-party activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akindele, who was the first female Speaker of the state assembly, expressed concern over allegations that some APC members in Ondo State were courting and working with opposition candidates.

She described the development as troubling and warned that any attempt by the governor to support such activities, regardless of his political calculations, could amount to political suicide and further weaken the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects.

According to her, anti-party activities could also undermine President Bola Tinubu’s ambition to secure an overwhelming victory in the 2027 presidential election and have serious consequences for the APC in Ondo State.

The former Speaker also criticised the party’s reconciliation committee in the state, arguing that some members of the committee were themselves among those allegedly dispossessed during previous political processes.

She questioned how individuals who were allegedly affected by the party’s internal disputes could be expected to lead reconciliation efforts, saying, “The offended could not be expected to seek reconciliation from those who had offended them.”

Akindele called on the national leadership of the APC and the affected candidates to establish credible reconciliation mechanisms to address grievances and prevent further divisions within the party.

She, however, appealed to aggrieved and disgruntled APC members to sheathe their swords and protect the future and reputation of the party.

She stressed that working against a political party while remaining a member of it was both unconscionable and dishonourable, urging party members to allow an “untainted conscience” to guide their actions.
