Malami Backs Return Of Fuel Subsidy, Cites Worsening Hardship

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami, has backed the restoration of fuel subsidy as part of immediate measures to address worsening economic hardship in the Northwest.

Malami said the removal of the subsidy had increased financial pressure on households across the region and contributed to the rising cost of living.

He spoke on Tuesday in Abuja while signing the Northwest ADC Governorship Candidates’ Compact 2027 2031 alongside other governorship candidates from the seven Northwest states.

The candidates declared their support for the pledge by the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to restore the fuel subsidy as one of the immediate measures to prevent more Nigerians from falling into extreme poverty.

They also called on President Bola Tinubu to reverse the subsidy removal, arguing that the expected economic benefits of the policy had not translated into improved living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.

According to the candidates, the removal of the subsidy has worsened economic hardship and contributed to rising hunger and other socio economic challenges across the Northwest.

They maintained that urgent government intervention was needed to ease the burden on households and address the growing cost of living crisis in the region.
