Hundreds of members of the Fulani community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have benefited from a two-day free health outreach sponsored by Hon. Olasumbo Oyeyemi,popularly known as Yeye.
The medical intervention was held at Omumu Primary Health Centre, Osi, on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, 2026. It was designed to address healthcare gaps among underserved Fulani families who often face challenges accessing primary healthcare due to distance, cost, and mobility constraints.
A total of 204 beneficiaries comprising men, women and children were attended to during the exercise.
The outreach provided free medical screening, consultation, treatment, essential medications and extensive health education.
On Day 1, Saturday, 100 beneficiaries were attended to between 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
On Day 2, Sunday, the team resumed at 8:00am and worked till 4:00pm, attending an additional 104 patients. This brought the 2-day total to 204 beneficiaries.
Services rendered included blood pressure checks, blood sugar level testing, general medical consultations, and treatment. Beneficiaries also received free medications such as analgesics, antimalarials, antibiotics, vitamins, and other essential medical supplies.
Health education sessions were a major component of the programme. Facilitators sensitized the community on personal hygiene, proper nutrition, maternal and child health, disease prevention, and the importance of seeking early medical attention at Primary Health Centres.
The outreach was coordinated by Amb. Anjorin Babatunde on behalf of the Medical Outreach Team. He was supported by government health officials and community mobilizers.
Personnel on ground included health workers, nurses, a National Health Fellow, and 6 security personnel who ensured order and safety. The Head of Department (HOD) of Health, Ekiti LGA, Mrs. Sulieman Kikelomo Halirat, was present throughout and provided technical oversight.
Comrade Aina Babatunde [T-Money] played a key role in mobilizing Fulani settlements across the LGA to ensure massive turnout. The *DPO of Ekiti LGA also led his officers to the venue on Sunday to reinforce security.
In her opening remarks, the HOD Health, Mrs. Halirat, described the intervention as a clear demonstration of Hon. Olasumbo Oyeyemi’s “motherly love and passionate care” for vulnerable populations.
She informed the gathering that the outreach was facilitated by Hon. Oyeyemi and urged beneficiaries to remember her in their prayers.
She also took time to educate the community on how to identify common health challenges early and the best ways to seek timely care at the PHC.
Beneficiaries and community leaders expressed profound appreciation to the sponsor for bringing healthcare services directly to their doorstep.
The community representative, Alhaji Adam, said the gesture had strengthened trust between the Fulani community and government.
_“If she can send health support without getting to office, unlike others, we will never forget her love,”_ he stated.
According to the outreach team, the intervention successfully reached almost every Fulani settlement across Ekiti LGA. The only exception was Eruku City, which could not be accessed due to distance and security concerns raised by residents.
Speaking after the exercise,Amb. Anjorin Babatunde said the intervention was designed not only to treat ailments but also to promote preventive healthcare, health education, and trust between underserved communities and public health institutions.
_“We are optimistic that this impact will tell positively, just as the community promised. We sincerely appreciate Hon. Olasumbo Oyeyemi for her compassion and commitment to the wellbeing of underserved people,”_ he said.
Stakeholders described the two-day programme as timely and impactful. They called on other public-spirited individuals and government officials to emulate Hon. Oyeyemi by extending similar interventions to other underserved communities across Kwara State.
The outreach has been hailed as one of the most direct health interventions for Fulani residents in Ekiti LGA in recent times.
