The Executive Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government Council, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, on Wednesday presented his administration’s two-year scorecard, highlighting milestones in security, infrastructure, rural electrification, water supply, and education across the local government area.
Speaking during a World Press Conference held at the Ilorin South LG Chalets, Podo outlined the key projects, programs, and policy interventions delivered since assuming office alongside members of his executive team.
Speaking on security reinforcement, Podo revealed that his administration expanded the local government’s security apparatus from the 20 personnel met on ground to 170 active security personnel. To boost operational efficiency and rapid response capabilities, the council upgraded the Civil Defence outpost in Alagbado to a full division, provided the command with an operational Siena vehicle, and distributed 50 motorcycles to various security agencies across Ilorin South.
On Infrastructure and Mobility, Podo noted that in order to strengthen local administrative operations, the council repaired and rebranded seven official vehicles while procuring new official cars for key principal officers including himself, Vice Chairman, Speaker, Director of Personnel Management (DPM), and Treasurer, as well as a dedicated Hummer bus for the legislative arm.
On road infrastructure, the administration executed interlocking paving works across critical corridors, including Alangua Okaka, Alangua Tanke, Alangua Oke-Ogun, Ile Podo, Ile Apata, Balogun Afin, and Ita Amodu.
Addressing utility deficits, Podo reported the distribution and installation of 17 transformers across various communities, including Imam Amsat, Idisin, Olomoda, Laduba, Odore Harmony, Alagbado, Fate, Basin, and Tanke, alongside power infrastructure extensions in Adunbarin and Gaa-Osibi. He noted that over 500 requests for electricity intervention remain pending before the council.
For potable water access, the administration drilled new motorized boreholes and repaired at least 10 faulty boreholes in each of the 11 wards of the local government, restoring water flow to key locations across Akanbi wards, Okaka, Oke-Ogun, and Balogun Fulani wards.
In the education sector, the council renovated classrooms and principals’ offices across the LGA, constructed the Mutawalli of Ilorin Multipurpose Hall at Sheikh Abdul Salam Junior Secondary School, distributed educational materials, and facilitated school developments in Isale Maliki and Ajibesin through the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB).
Additionally, Podo revealed that the administration sponsored 30 students to study at the College of Health Sciences in Osogbo.
