The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has commended the Kwara State Government for creating an enabling environment that has allowed the institution’s Management to discharge its responsibilities effectively.
The Rector made the commendation while declaring open the 3rd International Conference of the Institute of Environmental Studies, held at the Polytechnic Auditorium.
Engr. Abdul attributed the achievements recorded by the Management to the support and conducive atmosphere provided by the state government, noting that such backing has contributed to the institution’s progress.
Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Scientific and Technological Innovations in the Built Environment in the 21st Century: Towards Social and Economic Development of Nigeria,” the Rector urged participants to harness science and technology as essential tools for addressing developmental challenges and promoting national growth.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies and host of the conference, Arch. Yunus Bolaji Azeez, said the rapid advancement of science and technology had created unprecedented opportunities to improve quality of life, promote economic growth and address social challenges within communities.
He explained that the conference was designed to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, sharing of best practices and collaboration towards developing innovative solutions capable of transforming the environment and improving communities.
Arch. Azeez therefore called on participants to leverage innovation not only for technological advancement but also as a catalyst for social equity and economic development.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Surv. Rotimi Olatunde Asonibare, appreciated the Rector for his support towards developing 21st-century academics and students for national development.
He stressed the need for educators in the 21st century to place greater emphasis on practical application, innovation and problem-solving approaches in addressing environmental challenges in an increasingly globalised world.
Highlights of the opening ceremony included the presentation of awards to the Rector, former Directors of the Institute and a former Deputy Director, as well as the official presentation of a document on the landscaping of the Polytechnic environment to the Rector.
