Moro Marginalisation Grievance Cannot Be Dismissed, APC Chieftain, Barr. Hussein Afolabi Tells Speaker Danladi

All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirant for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, Hussein Afolabi, Esq has faulted remarks credited to the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, over the political representation of Moro Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 elections.

Afolabi expressed his reaction in a press statement made available to 9japarrot on Friday following comments made by Speaker Danladi at the Kwara North Traditional Rulers and Political Stakeholders Engagement in Bode Saadu on October 8, 2026.

During the engagement, the APC governorship candidate had reportedly urged Moro stakeholders not to feel excluded from the ballot, citing the presence of himself, the senatorial candidate, the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency candidate, Mohammed Mamman, and various state assembly candidates on the party’s ticket.

Rebutting the Speaker’s position, Afolabi argued that Danladi’s response failed to address the core grievance of the Moro people, who he said have suffered political marginalization since the return to civil rule in 1999.

“The question Moro is asking is not whether Kwara North has candidates on the ballot, but whether Moro, a constituent part of Kwara North, will continue to be overlooked in the opportunity to produce a representative of its own at the National Assembly,” Afolabi stated.

He noted that since 1999, the Senate and House of Representatives seats for the zone have been repeatedly occupied by representatives from Edu and Patigi local government areas to the exclusion of Moro.

Afolabi drew a parallel with the broader political agitation in the district, stating that telling Moro residents to accept an Edu candidate is equivalent to telling Kwara North to drop its governorship agitation because Kwara Central has produced governors.

“If Kwara North’s demand for a governor is grounded in the need for equitable and fair political inclusion, Moro’s demand to be given an opportunity to produce a representative in the National Assembly deserves to be considered with the same seriousness,” he added.

The legal practitioner also cautioned Danladi against making definitive statements regarding the candidature of Mohammed Mamman for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency seat, revealing that the validity of Mamman’s nomination is currently subject to litigation under Suit No. FHC/IL/CS/107/2026 at the Federal High Court in Ilorin.

He called on political leaders across Kwara North to exercise judicial restraint and address the presentation submitted by the Moro Descendants Development Union (MODDU) with fairness, statesmanship, and sensitivity.
