Delta Sports Commission Offers N200,000 Reward for Suspect Who Attacked Match Officials

The Delta State Sports Commission has announced a N200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who allegedly attacked match officials following Warri Wolves’ home draw against Kano Pillars on Sunday.

The commission announced the reward in a statement signed by Warri Wolves secretary, Henry Ukah, describing the incident as heartbreaking.

The attack reportedly occurred outside the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro, where the match officials had been escorted out of the stadium by security personnel after the game.

According to the statement, the officials had already reached their bus outside the venue when the assault occurred.

Chairman of the commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, said the reward was intended to help identify and secure the immediate arrest of the suspect.

He reiterated the commission’s zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism and violence in football, stressing the need to protect match officials and ensure their safety at sporting events.

Oborevwori urged members of the public with credible information about the suspect to report to the police at the Ughelli Area Command, where the case had been reported.

The commission’s action comes amid renewed concerns about violence against match officials and the need to maintain safety and discipline in Nigerian football.
