Ogbo Grammar School Crowned Winner of 2025 Akinola Cup Tournament



Ogbo Grammar School (OGS) of Omu-Aran, representing Irepodun Local Government, has emerged victorious in the 4th Edition of the Akinola 2025 football tournament, securing a decisive 3-1 win against OLGSS Ilemona of Oyun Local Government.

The tournament, generously sponsored by Chief Engr. Paul Okikidayo Akinola, the Aare Akeweje of Oro Kingdom and founder of the Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation, aims to strengthen unity among young people and nurture the talents of budding athletes. This year’s edition marked a significant expansion, featuring all seven Local Government Areas in the Kwara South Senatorial District, a notable departure from previous tournaments which only covered communities within Oro Kingdom.

The electrifying final match, held on Sunday at CCHS Ijomu Oro in Irepodun Local Government, saw Ogbo Grammar School take an early lead. Awotayo Lolade (jersey number 8) netted the first goal in the opening half. He continued his stellar performance in the second half, scoring two more goals to complete a hat-trick, bringing OGS’s tally to three. OLGSS Ilemona’s Victoria Samuel (jersey number 10) managed to score a consolation goal in the 86th minute, but it was not enough to alter the outcome.

The match concluded with a 3-1 scoreline, crowning OGS as the champions of the 2025 tournament.

Speaking as the Royal guest at the event, His Royal Majesty, Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye Olufayo II, the Oloro of Oro Kingdom, commended the host, Engr. Paul Okikidayo Akinola, for his unique initiative that has “stood the test of time over the years.”

“I must say I’m impressed with this initiative and how it has kept recording success stories over the years,” said the monarch.

Oba Oyatoye added that the program’s success was largely due to the founder’s benevolent intentions towards the Kingdom and its people.

The revered monarch encouraged the host to continue his efforts while charging participants to “make use of the opportunity judiciously,” noting that the sky will be their limit, as there are much success awaiting ahead.

Princess Amao Olabimpe, Chairwoman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Akinola Cup 2025, lauded the host’s support towards the successful actualization of the exercise.

She also commended the members of the organizing team for their dedication and optimal delivery while thanking the host for the opportunity given to her to lead the committee.

In his address, Chief Engr. Paul Okikidayo Akinola, the founder of Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation and host of the 2025 Akinola Cup, reiterated his unwavering commitment to supporting community and human capital development.

He emphasized that this commitment was the driving force behind initiating the Akinola Cup Football Tournament, aimed at developing young people and fostering unity among them.

He extended his appreciation to all dignitaries who graced the final event.
