The Moro Descendants Development Union, MODDU, has thrown its full weight behind Engr. Iliasu Rotimi Suleiman, describing his emergence as PDP candidate for Kwara North as “a new dawn” for the district and a step toward ending political marginalization of Moro people since 1999.
This development was confirmed during a Press Conference held on Monday led by MODDU President, Professor Reuben Kehinde Akano who said the union’s support for Suleiman transcends party lines and is based on his “exceptional, undeniable track record of service, integrity, and community development.”
“MODDU is a strictly apolitical and non-partisan organization being the apex socio-cultural body that unites the entire Moro people home and abroad,” Akano said at the briefing in Shao.
“We do not align with any political party partisanly but for development and growth of Moro Local Government Area.” He added.
He noted that the PDP senatorial ticket granted to Suleiman under the leadership of Dr Bukola Saraki represents “a rare show of love, solidarity and support for the people of Moro who have suffered political marginalization since the return of democratic rule in 1999.
“History was not just made during the recent PDP senatorial primary election, hope was reborn. It is a delightful and rejuvenating radiance for the people of Moro and the entire Kwara North senatorial district,” Akano said.

The Kwara North Senatorial District comprises Edu, Kaiama, Patigi, Baruten and Moro LGAs.
Akano expressed gratitude to delegates, party leaders, youths, women and stakeholders across the five LGAs for their support during the primary.
“Your overwhelming support, your votes, and the absolute confidence you reposed in our son, Engr. Iliasu Rotimi Suleiman, have paved the way for a new dawn in Kwara North. You chose unity over division. You chose progress over stagnation. And because of your courage, this victory belongs to all of us,” he said.
The MODDU President assured that the mandate would be met with purposeful leadership, accessible representation, deep compassion, and an unwavering dedication to the welfare and progress of every community in Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, Baruten and Moro.
“We are deeply humbled by this massive show of confidence. We assure every Kwara Northerner that this trust will never be taken for granted,” he added.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Akano called on all citizens irrespective of party affiliations to support the vision of Kwara North unity.
“As we transit into the next phase of this political journey, we call on all citizens to key into the grand vision of Kwara North unity. Together, we must break the jinx of underdevelopment and deprivation that has long bedeviled our senatorial district,” he said.
“Let us remain united, peaceful, and fiercely focused. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and secure future for Kwara North. This victory belongs to every one of us.” the group added.
