Two men have been sentenced to prison over the violent 2023 burglary at the Paris home of Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner, Alessia Elefante.
Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, described by prosecutors as the mastermind of the operation, was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined €80,000 by the Paris Criminal Court on Friday.
His co-defendant, Moktar D., received a five-year prison sentence, with two years suspended subject to probation.
A third defendant, Khyan M., 22, who prosecutors suspected of helping orchestrate the robbery from his prison cell, was acquitted.
The case stemmed from a terrifying incident in the early hours of July 21, 2023, when four masked men reportedly entered Donnarumma and Elefante’s luxury ninth-floor apartment on Avenue Montaigne through the rooftops.
The couple were dragged from their bed, threatened at knifepoint and restrained during the robbery.
Donnarumma, who was playing for Paris Saint-Germain at the time, was beaten with hard-knuckle gloves until he bled, while Elefante was choked with a phone charging cable before the couple were separated and tied up.
The attackers reportedly escaped with cash, jewellery, watches and luxury bags valued by Donnarumma at almost €1 million.
Elefante, who was pregnant at the time and is now Donnarumma’s wife, later suffered a miscarriage that was attributed to the trauma of the incident.
Prosecutors had sought prison terms of between four and 10 years for the three defendants, describing the robbery as part of a growing pattern of highly lucrative and extremely violent attacks targeting wealthy residents and celebrities in the exclusive Avenue Montaigne area.
Kherbouch, also known as “Ganito”, had faced the possibility of a 10-year sentence. He later apologised to police officers he had insulted during the trial and to the court.
Both alleged masterminds denied involvement in the robbery despite prosecutors presenting messages and images recovered from phones they had used while in custody.
Moktar D., the only defendant alleged to have been present at the scene, maintained that he was merely acting as a lookout from a building opposite the couple’s apartment.
A childhood friend of his, who was also implicated and accused of providing information to the gang, later died by suicide in prison.
Donnarumma has since left Paris Saint-Germain and joined Manchester City in 2025, but the violent burglary remains one of the most traumatic episodes of his time in France.
The convictions bring a major chapter of the case to a close, although several members of the seven-man gang allegedly involved in the robbery remain unidentified.
