The Cross River State Police Command has launched a search for a male hotel guest who went missing after checking into a hotel in Calabar South with a woman who was later found dead.
The woman, whose identity is still unknown, was discovered dead at the hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South. Police are treating the incident as a suspected case of homicide.
The command disclosed this in an update issued on Wednesday, following an earlier report on the incident on September 8, 2026.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had checked into the hotel with the unidentified man, whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
Investigators are searching for the man to determine what happened before the woman’s body was discovered.
The police have also released a photograph of the deceased to help identify her and locate her relatives and associates.
The command appealed to members of the public who may recognise the woman or have information about her identity or the missing hotel guest to contact the police.
Meanwhile, the receptionist on duty when the two guests checked in is still in police custody and assisting with the investigation.
Police said he is being questioned about the guests’ arrival and the events leading to the discovery of the woman’s body.
However, the command stressed that the receptionist’s detention does not mean he is guilty, adding that any further action would be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and objectively.
