AbdulRazaq Didn’t Impose Danladi as Kwara APC Gov Candidate, Says Yilwatda

••• Choice Guided by Fairness, Equity for Kwara North

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed insinuations that Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq unilaterally imposed 41-year-old Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Yilwatda explained that Danladi’s selection was the product of extensive stakeholder engagement guided by the need for inclusion, equity, and fairness.

Yilwatda noted that Kwara North Senatorial District has not produced a governor since the return to democratic governance in 1999, making equity a central consideration for the party leadership.

“All the governors that have emerged in Kwara State from 1999 till date are from Kwara Central, only one is from Kwara South,” Yilwatda stated.

“The party in its wisdom felt that there should be inclusion, and Kwara North should be given an opportunity to produce the governor.”

He affirmed that the decision enjoyed broad backing from statutory delegates, political leaders, and party structures across Kwara State rather than being a single-handed directive by Governor AbdulRazaq.

Yilwatda added that the people of Kwara North are pleased with the opportunity, while assuring that national leadership is actively engaging aggrieved party members to build strong post-primary reconciliation.

He expressed optimism that the APC will secure victory across all elective positions in Kwara State, including the presidential, governorship, senatorial, and legislative contests.
