The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to driving economic growth, improving living standards, and reducing poverty through targeted social intervention programmes.
Speaking during a media briefing on the implementation of the Renewed Hope Non-Conditional Social Security Grant, the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Auwal Dalladi Sankara, disclosed that 154,412 vulnerable households have been registered as beneficiaries across the state.
According to him, the first phase of the programme began in January, while the second phase is currently in progress. He said 126,636 beneficiaries have already received their payment cards across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas, while efforts are ongoing to distribute cards to the remaining 27,776 households.
Sankara also revealed that President Tinubu recently increased the grant from N10,000 to N25,000 per payment cycle. With each beneficiary entitled to three payment cycles, eligible households will receive a total of N75,000 under the scheme.
He explained that the increase is aimed at improving household welfare, boosting nutrition and supporting family incomes, particularly among low-income earners. The commissioner noted that although the grant may seem modest, it has the potential to support petty traders, food vendors, and other small-scale businesses that contribute to local economic growth.
Sankara attributed the successful implementation of the programme in Jigawa to the support of Governor Umar Namadi, stating that the initiative aligns with the governor’s 12-point development agenda. He added that the programme reflects the shared commitment of both the federal and state governments to poverty reduction, grassroots economic development, and sustainable growth.
