My Ticket is a Unity Ticket; Says Àṣọfin Rere Popoola

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Kwara South Senatorial District, Prince Saheed Popoola, has reiterated that his candidacy represents a unifying ticket for all major blocs in Kwara South.

Popoola made this known on Saturday at Ajase-Ipo during a well-attended event where over 1,500 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Chief Gbenga Awoyale, formally defected to the PDP. The defection was described by party stakeholders as a major boost to the PDP’s strength in the district ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Addressing supporters and the new defectors, Popoola promised to run an inclusive representation that would not differentiate between Ibolo, Ekiti, Igbomina or any other tribe and groups residing in Kwara South. He assured the electorate of equitable distribution of resources, projects and opportunities across all communities if elected as Senator.

Speaking further on the political outlook, Popoola expressed optimism that the growing coalition in Kwara State would deliver victory for all PDP candidates in the forthcoming general elections, noting that the party was gaining wider acceptance across the state.

On the worsening insecurity in Kwara South, the PDP senatorial candidate recalled that he raised the alarm as far back as 2024, but lamented that the Kwara State governor failed to take adequate steps to address the situation before it escalated.

Popoola concluded by expressing strong confidence in winning the election, hinging his optimism on his track record in public service, deep grassroots network, popularity among the people, and the acceptability of the PDP under the leadership of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
