Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi will miss Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against Lille after sustaining ankle injuries during a post-match warm-down.
The duo suffered the injuries following Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Ecuadorian defender Hincapie, who came on as a late substitute in the encounter, was carried off the pitch after sustaining his injury during the recovery session.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Arteta said both players would undergo further scans to determine the severity of their injuries and the expected recovery periods.
He described the incidents as unfortunate, explaining that the session was organised for players who had not played enough minutes during the match.
Arteta suggested that Hincapie’s injury appeared more serious but said the club would await the results of the medical assessments before providing further details.
The injuries leave Arsenal without two players for their home fixture against the French side as they continue their Champions League campaign.
Arsenal, last season’s Champions League finalists, began this season’s campaign with a victory over Napoli last month.
The Gunners are also second in the Premier League standings, three points behind leaders Manchester City.
