Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the racist remarks made against UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, by a chieftain of the UK Reform Party.
Sani described the incident as a lesson to Nigerians who attempt to distance themselves from their roots in a bid to gain acceptance in Western countries.
In a post on his verified X handle, the former lawmaker said Badenoch’s experience showed that racism could persist regardless of an individual’s accent, nationality or political status.
Recall that a chieftain of the UK Reform Party had made a racial remark against Badenoch, who is of Nigerian descent, questioning her British identity.
Reacting to the development, Sani wrote: “No matter how you try to deny being Nigerian, the Caucasian will always remind you of your roots.”
He added that the incident demonstrated that racism does not recognise an individual’s accent, passport or political position.
Meanwhile, the UK Reform Party was yet to officially respond to the racist remarks made by its chieftain as of the time of filing this report.
